I had a high-risk pregnancy after having two late miscarriages, which doctors recommended no activity for the entire pregnancy. As an athlete and coach, that was tough! Only being able to walk & not lift over 30 lbs(which was a big part of my job as a trainer), I felt I was going crazy for the 9 months. But I understood it was needed for a healthy baby so, I did what the doctors suggested.
I gained a lot of weight & was the biggest I have ever been in my life. My body changed in ways I had never seen before, and it was a big stressor for me. I lost muscle mass, gained body fat and felt gross! I didn’t recognize the person in the mirror. I knew I would have some work to do after I had the baby, but I ended up having an unplanned c-section, which postponed my timeline even further back. So not only was I a new mom dealing with a baby, breast feeding, diapers and everything that goes with it, but also couch bound for another 6 weeks. Frustration levels were high!
Fast forward to September 2024: I was back to working out multiple times a week, walking daily, playing hockey, chasing after my son and feeling pretty close to being myself again! I got back down to 138lbs, 29% body fat and 39% muscle mass, these aren’t my end goal numbers but I am getting there with slow and steady results, so they can last for years to come!
How did I do it?
✅Prioritized my health
✅Progressive overload- I started super easy & slowly made it harder each week
✅Strength Training 2x a week
✅Daily Healthy Habits
✅Asked for help when I needed it
✅Incorporated activities into my days with a baby
✅Meal planning and preparation
✅Include things I truly enjoy doing
